A
review by Escape Masters

"Micky Hades' New Expanded Encyclopedia of Escapes Review by Thomas Blacke - Editor. The title of this book "New Expanded Encyclopedia of Escapes" pretty much says it all. It is a modern adaptation and reprint of the 1964 book "Encyclopedia of Escapes" by William McLaury. Until Micky Hades released this new version in 2001, it was rather difficult to obtain a copy of the original book. Mr. Hades has done a great service to the escape community by releasing this new version. Not only does it contain all of the information included in Me Laury's version, it contains new information that has been collected over the years since it had first been published. Each section of the book is laid out concisely and completely. Chapters range from rope ties, to wire, chain and shackle escapes, to handcuff escapes, jail breaking, and sensational escapes. There are also new contributions to this volume by John Pomeroy, Dick Norman, and others. Stephen Forrester has also provided an extensive bibliography on the art of escapes. It should go without saying that this volume should be in the library of every escape artist. It should also be in the collection of every collector, historian, or fan of magic. In no other book ever published on escapes will you find such a wealth of knowledge and information as you will find in this book. Working escape artists will be able to find something new to add to their act, while beginners to the art will have a learning tool from which they can base their knowledge of escapes.Another very unique feature of this volume are icons that precede each escape that tell the reader if they need to buy a special prop for an escape, or if they need to build something special, or if they can easily acquire the necessary props for the escape. This feature alone makes this encyclopedia stand alone from other magic encyclopedias. If you do not already have a copy of this book, get one for yourself, or get one as a gift for that special escape artist in your life!"

ESCAPE ARTISTS

YOU ARE WANTED !

WE NEED YOUR PHOTOGRAPHS, BIOGRAPHIES AND PROMOTIONAL MATERIALS TO BE INCLUDED IN OUR SECOND VOLUME OF THE NEW EXPANDED ENCYCLOPEDIA OF ESCAPES NOW IN PREPARATION.

Introduce yourself to the world of Escapes and learn what your fellow Artists are up to. Escape Artists are separated by geography and they don't have as many meetings and conventions, like magicians, ventriloquists and jugglers. That is why being shown in this book is a wonderful way to get together. The Information that you give about yourself may serve you well too. It may foster friendships that will help you with your achievements.

PAST ESCAPE ARTISTS WILL BE INCLUDED IN THIS WORK

The history goes back to Houdini, who developed Escapes into an Art. Many Escape Artists have risen to the challenges that he contrived, and in the process they have developed unique and entertaining presentations, some which are now found in the programs of magicians. The Chain Escape, the Substitution Trunk and the Strait Jacket escape are some of the examples. Illusions like The Assistant's Revenge, the Wrist Tie and Through the Eye of a Needle show how the escape theme is being used in magic today..
