THE MISSING RAY GAMBLE TROPHY

The search for the 3 West Coast PCAM Ray Gamble divisional trophies has been going on for some time. The trophies given to the three PCAM divisions by the late Ray Gamble of Portland, Oregon. The Vancouver (Canada) trophy is in the hands of the Vancouver Magic Circle, the Pacific Northwest trophy is in the hands of the Pacific Society of Magicians and the one given to the California PCAM group has been located in the magic collection of Micky Hades who acquired it from the late Ray Gamble.

The overall height of this trophy is 28 1/4". It is set on a 9 3/8" octagonal base, 4" high, with 8 brass plates affixed to it. The engraved plates showing the winners read:
1934 - James Stoppard from Portland, Oregon, won at Oakland, California
1935 - Gerald Kosky of Los Angeles, California, won in Hollywood, CA
1936 - Lloyd E. Jones of Oakland, California, won in Seattle, Washington
1937 - Dr. Douglas M.Kelley of San Francisco,California, won in Reno NV
1938 - Harry Luine Miller of Seattle, Washington, won in San Jose, CA
1939 - Gerald Kaufman of New York City, N.Y., won in San Francisco, CA
1940 - Bert Allerton of Hollywood, California, won in San Diego, California 1942 - Lyle F. Laughlin of Oakland, California, won in Oakland, California
On the front of the figure, holding a laurel wreath in one of the raised hands and a fan of cards in the other, appears the engraving: "The Ray Gamble Trophy presented to The Pacific Coast Magicians Won by the Club Presenting the Best Card Effect at any Annual Convention". The back of the trophy reads:
1946 - Dick Madden of Los Angeles
1948 - Jay Bedsworth of Oakland, California at Reno, Nevada
1949 - Everett Lyda of San Jose, California, at Hollywood, California
1950 - Jay Bedsworth of Oakland, California, at Portland, Oregon
1951 - James Hume of Palm Springs, California, at San Jose, California
The trophy is in a fitted wooden case measuring 11 3/4" x 11 1/2" x 30 1/8". It weighs approximately 40 pounds with the case.
